Vikings going with J.J. McCarthy for now, will keep Aaron Rodgers on radar

The Minnesota Vikings will not sign Aaron Rodgers right now, according to league sources, as the team is set to give J.J. McCarthy every chance to earn the starting job. Though, those sources add, the Vikings will continue to keep Rodgers on their radar.

The Vikings considered signing Rodgers, but decided against making the move for now. Though, according to league sources, they are neither in nor out on the 41-year-old quarterback. McCarthy, who missed the entirety of his rookie season with a torn meniscus in his right knee, will have an opportunity to secure the starting job with a strong showing this spring.

Minnesota also understands the risk. Rodgers has generated interest from the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, and could decide to sign with either. Retirement is also still an option for Rodgers.
