The Houston Texans locked down their lockdown cornerback, agreeing to a three-year, $90 million deal with Derek Stingley Jr., including new guarantees of $63.5 million, a league source said Monday. The extension will give Stingley the highest annual value contract for a cornerback in NFL history.

Stingley, 23, was a first-team All-Pro in 2024, his third year in the league after being drafted No. 3 in the 2022 NFL Draft. The LSU product started 20 games in his first two seasons as he battled injuries, but was healthy for all of 2024. He tallied five interceptions and 18 passes defended, the second most in the league. He allowed the lowest passer rating (56.9) and the lowest completion percentage (45.7 percent) among all cornerbacks who played at least 400 snaps in coverage last season, according to NextGenStats.
In the playoffs, Stingley snagged two more picks and anchored a Texans secondary that wreaked havoc on Justin Herbert in the wild-card round, hounding the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback for four interceptions and four sacks in a 32-12 win.
Stingley resets the corner market
Stingley cashes in on a third NFL season that saw him record five interceptions and 18 pass breakups which led to the first Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro selections of his career. The Texans make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league, topping the $25 million extension Jaycee Horn had received from the Panthers. Houston has invested heavily on the defensive side of the ball since DeMeco Ryans took over as head coach, and that commitment remains ongoing following the extension awarded to Stingley. — Mike Jones, national NFL writer
